They are commonly used to fine-tune tooling locations in work-holding and weld fixtures, improve weld alignment, and maintain exact die positioning during stamping, cutting, or forming processes.

Select Material
We produce shims and washers using a range of materials – cold-rolled (a.k.a. 1010 full hard, carbon, or mild) steel, 300 series stainless steel, blue tempered steel and brass
Determine Thickness
We produce shims in varying thicknesses based on the capacity of our cutting lasers and to meet standard or metric needs.
Select Standard Shim Style
Standard configurable catalog styles and shapes include slot and hole shims, and washers.
- Round washers are available in a range of outside and inside diameter choices available to fine tune the location of tooling components
- Slot shims can feature the scope from one to five slots, with the ability to define design based on screw size, slot width, length and slot location on the shim. All slot shims can be customized as die-sharpening.
- Hole shims are available in different configurations and can feature from one to six holes
Identify Shims Fitting Other Components
We can produce shims that meet the needs of a variety of other manufacturers’ components. Tell us what you need a shim for and who makes that component (e.g., Carr Lane, Jergens, Reid or Peerless). We will research that design to produce the shim to meet your need.
Matching Other Manufacturers’ Shims
If you are challenged by availability, timing or cost from another shim manufacturer (e.g., Douglas Stamping Co. or Misumi), we can help. We frequently cut shims to match the dimensions of competitors’ products.
We also produce shims based on North American Automotive Metric Standards (NAAMS). These shims are a standardized system of components and shapes for things like fixtures, dies, tooling, alignment blocks, locator pins and spacers. The purpose of NAAMS is to standardize dimensions and interfaces so parts from different suppliers fit together reliably — which reduces cost, simplifies design changes, and improves interchangeability.

Customize Your Shim Selection
We will produce any shim you need based on your design specifications. Provide us with a drawing, DXF, DWG or any generic 3D model and we will produce it for you.
Rentapen can also customize all shim designs to be die-sharpening shims to meet customer orders. Die-sharpening shims are placed behind the shim when the face of the die is machined down to sharpen it. Keep the surface of the die in the precise same location during the stamping, cutting, or forming process.
Plating
Rentapen shims come conveniently packaged and labeled. Many customers no longer find the need for plating necessary. However, please contact us with your specific plating needs.
