Trunnions: Quick & Easy Fixture Rotation
Trunnions are pivot-mounted support tools that allow rotation around a fixed horizonal axis while maintaining structural stability. Rentapen’s RAPid Trunnions™ provide convenient 360° rotation for weld fixtures, optimizing access for manual or robotic welding processes.

Trunnions: Fixed, Adjustable, Single Headstock, or Custom – All Improve Productivity
Rentapen offers both fixed and adjustable height trunnions in standard configurations, and single headstock-only configurations, but we also offer custom design-and-build trunnions to meet specific customer requirements. All Rentapen trunnions deliver portability, safety, convenience and reliability.
Trunnions deliver several important benefits to a manual welder. First, because of its ergonomic design, a trunnion will decrease welder fatigue, prevent potential for repetitive strain injury, and as a result, will keep your workforce welding at stations longer. Trunnions also optimize part orientation, improving weld access, typically resulting in increased weld quality. Increased productivity and weld cell flexibility make trunnions essential long-term equipment on the production floors.
Customers rarely purchase only one trunnion. Over time, as they prove their value, customers frequently purchase additional sets to meet growing needs.
Rentapen trunnions incorporate a positive locking system on all headstocks to prevent accidental or unwanted rotation. Rentapen trunnions feature heavy-duty bearings and caster options for long-term reliability. The heavy-duty casters allow for easy movement over the shop floor and permit independent headstock and tailstock positioning. Floor mount versions, which allow for greater weight capacity, are also available.
Rentapen offers four approaches to configuring trunnions:
Fixed – We offer six standard heights for a fixed-height trunnion, ranging from 34” to 48”
Adjustable – We offer trunnions with the ability to adjust from 27” 48”
Single Head Stock- We offer fixed height headstock-only trunnions, ranging from 34” to 48” for applications where a tailstock is not wanted or needed.
Custom – We will work with you to create a custom fixed or adjustable height trunnion based on your own custom mounting or designs. We will even customize mounting plates, frames and weld tables to match drawings for your specific application.

Each of these options features the opportunity to specify gear ratios, caster sizes and locking positions. Pneumatic motor options are also available. Hydraulic motor options are in development. Please reach out to Rentapen if you are interested in this new technology.
Benefits
Rentapen trunnions are good for both the weld operator, and for the quality and repeatability of the final welded piece. Trunnions are the best and safest option for a single operator to rotate a work-holding fixture. Rentapen trunnions also improve weld point access and the quality of the final welds.
Selecting and Configuring Trunnions
Select Trunnion Style
Evaluate your immediate and long term uses for the trunnion to determine whether a fixed vs. variable height product type works best for you now and into the future. Fixed height models offer long-term consistency and repeatability. While variable height models provide adaptability and flexibility for use across multiple work hold projects.
Select the Gearbox Ratio
Choose between 50:1 or 500:1 options for fixed height and variable height trunnions.
Specify Height or Height Range
There are six fixed height options to consider: 34” 36”, 38”, 40”, 42”, or 48”. Variable height trunnions are available in five height ranges: 27” to 39”, 27” to 42”, 27” to 44”, 27” to 48”, or 27” to a custom maximum height.
Choose Caster Type
Choose from five portability options including floor mounted trunnions, standard and heavy-duty casters.
Locking Tailstock
Determine if you want the tailstock locking capability. Rotational lock pins are available for the tailstocks of either fixed or variable height trunnions. The rotational lock pins with eight positions at 45° increments are standard on headstock.
Controls
Select the control type for fixed height trunnions – manual crank, foot-operated valve, or hand-operated valve. Only manual controls are currently available for variable height trunnions. Pneumatic controls are in development. Please reach out to Rentapen if you are interested in this new technology.
Choose Options
- Stability bars are an available option for both fixed height and variable height trunnions – at lengths based on customers’ needs.
- Frames, steel or aluminum weld tables with custom hole size and hole patterns are also available.
