Plates: Proper Tooling Structure

Plates provide structural support and component mounting surfaces to a welding fixture.  They are usually larger and flatter than blocks, but thinner relative to their footprint.

Plates – Structure & Support

Rentapen plates provide broad mounting surfaces, distribute weight loads and provide the locating surfaces for your workpiece. They work in complement to blocks. Plates provide the point of origin – the datum surface, while blocks are about mounting and precise positioning.
Plates come in a versatile selection of materials. RP00 is available in mild steel, aluminum or 300 Series Stainless Steel. The remaining plate configurations are available in:
  • 4140 DCF (decarb-free) that has its oxidization removed
  • Ampco 18 (a high performance, nickel-free aluminum bronze alloy that reduces the impact of weld spatter)
  • 300 Series Stainless Steel
Shims are frequently ordered along with plates to allow for fine-tuning in the assembly of a welding fixture. Click here to learn more about RAPid Shim options.

Benefits

Rentapen plates provide strength and stability for secondary mounting and structural layers in a welding fixture.

Requesting Plate Quotes

Customers select the desired plate configuration. Begin by specifying unit selection (metric vs. standard) and the screw size. The screw size dictates many of the remaining configuration decisions. The range of block length limits are dictated by the specified screw size – selections can be made within that range. The hole sizes are also dictated by the selection of the screw size. Select the hole type based on the specified need. Select desired material last, before submitting the configuration for a quote. If width precision is required, please specify the finished size. *

*4140 DCF is supplied from the mills in an oversize condition. The height and width will not be machined to exact size.  If the exact finish is required, please add -f to the end of the part number quote you are requesting.  That part would then be machined to nominal dimensions.

Selecting and Configuring Plates

Plates can be configured for quotes in five categories:

block
RP00

Eight holes located on the top face of the plate.

block
RP02

This plate features two holes in width formation at the non-bevel end of its top face. The thickness of the plate is twice the size of the selected screw.

block
RP03

This plate features two holes in width formation at the non-beveled end of its top face. The thickness of the plate is same size as the selected screw.

block

RP04
This is a longer, narrower finger-shaped plate with two holes in length formation at the non-beveled end of its top face. The thickness of the plate is twice the size of the selected screw.

RP05
This is a longer, narrower finger-shaped plate with two holes in length formation at the non- beveled end of its top face. The thickness of the plate is same size as the selected screw.
